Heroin bust

WOODLAND – A Woodland man is behind bars and illegal drugs are off the street here in this Northampton County town.

Yesterday (Friday), the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on a residence in the city limits of Woodland. As a result of citizens’ complaints, the search warrant was applied for and granted.

As a result of the execution of the search warrant prepared by Sergeant M. Sledge of the Northampton County Narcotics Unit, Steannie Chaplin Sawyer was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sale and deliver heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony maintaining of a dwelling for the purpose of selling or storing a controlled substance.

Sawyer was presented before a magistrate where probable cause was found for his arrest. He was given a secured bond of $10,000 and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Northampton County District Court on Thursday, July 27.

“Thanks to Sergeant Sledge’s due diligence and hard work on combating the illegal drug trade, 63 dosages of heroin with a reported weight of approximately 1.2 grams will not be reaching the streets of Northampton County,” said Sheriff Jack Smith.

“I would like to commend Sergeant Sledge on this arrest as same makes a statement that the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate those who choose to pollute our community with poison. The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office is committed to working cases that involves the illegal narcotics trade,” Smith added.
