LOS FRESNOS, TX – Mayor David Norway Winstead, 71, of Los Fresnos, Texas passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Valley Regional Medical Center.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, San Juana (Jane) Herrera Winstead; his children, Chantal Nicole Winstead and David Norway Winstead; grandchildren, Mecoa Emerson and Ellisey Bleu; and a sister, Daynelle W. Armstrong-Trent. He also leaves behind numerous family members, brothers-in-law, Mac Maldonado, Eugene, Luis, Joel, Andy Herrera, Arnold Trujillo; and sisters-in law, Elvira Flores, Ninfa Flores, Leticia Trujillo, Aurora Lopez, Maria Mirta Duran; as well as many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews located in Texas, Virginia and North Carolina. He will be greatly missed.

We celebrate the life of Mayor David Norway Winstead who was a loving husband, father, son, brother in law, uncle and friend. He loved life and people and lived his life to the fullest. He was a kind, generous and soft-spoken gentleman who was always eager to help anyone in need.

He was a strong civic leader for the city of Los Fresnos and he loved this town and its residents. As Mayor of Los Fresnos and in coordination with the city officials, he spearheaded many projects to improve the quality of life for its residents. We are grateful for the time God gave us with him in this life and look forward to seeing him again one day.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory with a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.
