Post 102 Juniors advance to State Tournament

MANTEO – Ahoskie Post 102 beat Clayton Post 71, 4-0, in a semifinal game of the Junior American Legion’s Area One playoffs here Saturday afternoon.

The win guaranteed Ahoskie a spot in the state play-offs that begin later this week in Mocksville.

Post 102 scores one run in the bottom of the first. Ryan Rowe doubles. Pinch runner Alden Lassiter goes to third on a Tyrek Beverly single. Lassiter scores on a Trevor Lee sacrifice fly. Ahoskie leads 1-0 after one inning.

Ahoskie scores three runs in the bottom of the second. Hunter Mitchell singles and goes to third on an Ethan Hughson double. Mitchell scores on a Spencer Simonowich RBI single. Trent Hobbs reaches first on a fielder’s choice as Hughson is out at home. Simonowich scores on a Jordan Robinson RBI double. Beverly is hit by a pitch to load the bases. Evan Lassiter then has a bases loaded walk for a RBI. Ahoskie leads 4-0 after two innings and that score stood for the remainder of the seven-inning contest.

Trent Munford pitches a complete game for the win, allowing no runs on two hits and has three strikeouts.

Ahoskie has nine hits. Rowe and Mitchell have two hits. Beverly, Hughson, Simonowich, Robinson, and Hobbs have one hit each.
