AHOSKIE – Using Jarrett Harrell’s four hits/seven-RBI performance at the plate and his arm on the mound, Ahoskie Post 102 beat Wayne County 16-6 in a senior American Legion game here Saturday afternoon.
The victory was the club’s first of the 2017 season.
Ahoskie opens the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. Harrell has a 2-run double and Slade Cowan has a RBI groundout. Post 102 leads 3-0 after one inning.
Wayne County scores two runs in the top of the second. Ahoskie scores three runs in the bottom of the second. Jordan Brinkley has a 2-run single and Chuck Lee has a RBI single. Ahoskie leads 6-2 after two innings.
Ahoskie adds five runs in the bottom of the third. Matthew Weaver has a bases loaded walk for a RBI, Brinkley has a RBI sacrifice fly, Ron Olsen has a 2-run double and Harrell has a RBI single. Ahoskie leads 11-2 after three innings.
Wayne County scores one run in the top of the fourth. Ahoskie scores four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Olsen has a RBI sacrifice fly and Harrell has a 3-run homer. Ahoskie leads 15-3 after four innings.
Wayne County scores three runs in the top of the fifth. Post 102 leads 15-6 after five innings.
Ahoskie scores its final run in the bottom of the sixth on a Harrell RBI single to end the game because of the ten run rule with the 16-6 win.
Harrell pitches six innings for the win, allowing four hits and has five strikeouts.
Ahoskie has 15 hits. Harrell leads Post 102 with four hits and seven RBI’s. Brinkley has three hits and three RBI’s. Lee and Daquan Wilson have two hits. Olsen has one hit and three RBI’s. Weaver, Peyton Jackson, and Nathan Rowe have one hit each.
Wayne County wins the second game of the doubleheader 6-2 to gain the split.
Ahoskie is 1-10 and 1-8 in the conference and play at Kinston tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m.
