Charles E. Spruill

AULANDER – Charles Edward Spruill, 90, of NC Hwy 305, Aulander, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston.

He was born in Bertie County on August 26, 1926 to the late Henry Wayland Spruill and Irene Cherry Spruill and was predeceased by his wife, Janet Cooper Spruill and brother, Henry Grayson Spruill.

Charles was a lifetime member of Connaritsa Baptist Church. He served in the US Air Force during World War II. He worked with Gillam Bros. Hardware in Windsor; Tayloe’s Hardware in Aulander and retired from the US Postal Service with 26 years of service. He was a Past President of the Aulander Ruritan Club.

Funeral services will be held Thursday June 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Windsor. The Rev. Jimmy Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery with Military honors.

Survivors include daughters, Edie Spruill Hauser of Bridgeton, and Alice Spruill Rouse (Eric) of Kinston; son, Jimmy Edward Pierce (Suzie) of Southern Shores; and grandchildren, Anna Rayne Rouse, Braxton Sean Rouse, Colby Kent Hauser, Browing and Parker Pierce.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to Connaritsa Baptist Church, 2016 NC Hwy 305, PO Box 160, Aulander, NC 27805.
