AHOSKIE – Member-owners gathered at Roanoke Electric Cooperative’s headquarter office on Thursday, April 20, to try its high-speed internet network offered through its Roanoke Connect Phase II project.

During the soft launch event, member-owners were able to bring their mobile devices and test the speed of the internet service that will be available to them through the pilot project. In addition, member-owners were able to sign up for REC’s Triple Savings Deal. With Triple Savings, member-owners receive a free ecobee3 thermostat and Wi-Fi enabled water heater control device as well as free installation and additional savings for internet service once the pilot is over.

“It’s a lot faster than the service that I currently have,” said member-owner, Jane Futrell of Aulander. “I can’t wait until I have it in my home.”

Member-owners who attended the event had the opportunity to be one of the first to have the service installed in their homes through the cooperative’s 60-day equipment pilot.

The cooperative also achieved a major milestone that same day by connecting its first member-owner to the high speed internet network. Teresa Watford of Aulander was recognized at the first member-owner participant of the Roanoke Connect Phase II pilot program at the event.

If you are within two miles of the cooperative headquarters office, between Highway 561 and Highway 461, call 252-209-2236 to see if your address is on the list to receive service for the REC pilot project. The pilot is open to the first 60 homes located in the pilot area to call the office and request to participate.
