AHOSKIE, NC – Gertrude Wiggins Parker, age 98, of Ahoskie, died on May 8, 2017 at Creekside Health and Rehabilitation of Ahoskie.

Mrs. Parker was born in Murfreesboro, Hertford County, NC, on November 28, 1918, a daughter of the late Isaac and Ellen Vaughan Wiggins. Gertrude was a member of Union United Methodist Church, and had worked as a Bookkeeper for her husband’s farming business

Besides her parents, Gert was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas P. Parker.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Genie Parker Parker and partner Frank Harrell of Ahoskie, NC, and Ellen Parker Rogers of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie on Thursday, May 11, 2017, from 10:00 am until 10:45 am, prior to services. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with the Rev. Greg Hurdle officiating. There will be a private interment service following.
