WOODLAND, NC – Jessie Mae Johnson Bryant, known to many as “Mama Jessie”, age 86, died on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Rich Square Health & Rehabilitation, Rich Square, NC.

Mrs. Bryant was born on July 17, 1930 to the late Millard and Edla Gilliam Johnson; on the same date in 1954 she married the love of her life, David L. Bryant. Jessie retired from the United States Postal Service and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.

Besides her loving husband, and parents, Jessie was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Gregory, and a brother, Frank Johnson.

Jessie is survived by her two sons, Mike Bryant and wife Kim, and Tim Bryant, all of Woodland; four grandsons, Wayne Bryant and Shelly Hatcher of Conway, NC, Phillip Bryant of Washington, NC, Matt Bryant of Murfreesboro, NC, and Brad Bryant and wife Emily of Murfreesboro, NC; and five great-grandchildren; Brandi, Madison, David, Avery, and Barrett Bryant. Also surviving is her brother, Robert Lewis and wife Bessie of Spring Hill, LA.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm, at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC, with the Rev. J Brabban and Dan Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery, Woodland, NC.
