Chowan University announces new staff

MURFREESBORO – Chowan University announces the hiring of nine new employees: Sarah Capps as the Financial Aid Coordinator; Rodney Countryman as Area Director for North Campus and Coordinator for Residence Life Operations; Cindy Ehrich as Assistant Volleyball Coach; Mitch Kelly as Institutional Assessment Coordinator; Shannon Lassiter as Assistant Director of Admissions for the Adult Degree Completion Program; X’Zayvious Lewis as Coordinator of the Jenkins Center and Residence Life Director; Christie Morris as Human Resources Generalist; Victoria Scott as Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing; and Amanda Sharpe as Associate Director of University Relations and Media Communications Specialist.
Capps, a Franklin, VA native, is a 2015 alumna of Chowan University. Capps was a member of multiple academic honor societies, first place winner in Personal Finance for North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference (2015), and participated on the Quiz Bowl team (2012-2015).
Countryman, a December 2016 graduate of Chowan, was raised in Henderson, NC. As a student at Chowan University he was Resident Assistant, Undergraduate Resident Director, Student Government Association Vice President, and Chief Presidential Ambassador. Rodney is now serving as the Area Director of North Campus and Coordinator for Residence Life.
Ehrich, originally from Fredericksburg, VA, is a December 2016 graduate of Chowan University, and will be formally presented with her Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in sports studies, May 2017. Ehrich was on the volleyball team for four years, and served as a student assistant coach during her last semester.
Kelly, originally from the Hampton/Newport News area, currently resides in Murfreesboro. He is an alumnus of Chowan with a dual major, receiving two Bachelor of Science degrees. Kelly brings with him experience from serving as a banker at RBC/PNC Bank, teaching with Hertford County Public Schools, and GED Testing Administration with Rivers Correctional Institution.
Lassiter, of Tarboro, is a graduate of the Adult Degree Completion Program at Chowan University. She was active in several honor societies, named to Who’s Who, Deans List, and President’s List, among other honors. Previously, Lassiter served as Disability Services Coordinator and Writing Center Assistant at Chowan University.
Lewis, originally from Waycross, GA, is a December 2016 graduate of Chowan University, and will be formally presented with his Bachelor of Science in exercise science, May 2017. He transferred to Chowan University from Louisburg Junior College. He was an offensive lineman with the Chowan Hawks Football squad.
Morris is currently residing in Rich Square. She graduated from Crest Senior High School in 1993 and continued her education at Cleveland Community College, graduating in 2000. She has worked in the Human Resources field for nearly 12 years, with experience in both benefits and payroll.
Scott is originally from Chesapeake, VA. She attended Old Dominion University receiving her Bachelor of Arts. While attending Old Dominion, Scott served as a Resident Assistant for three years, gaining experience in Housing and Residence Life. She is a 4H alumna, as well as a Sigma Sigma Sigma alumna at her Alma Mater.
Sharpe, currently residing in Carrsville, VA, is a magnum cum laude alumna of Chowan University. She previously worked at Virginia Tech and served in roles such as Union Services Coordinator, Campus Events and Off-Campus Housing Coordinator, and Off-Campus Housing Coordinator. She received her Master of Arts from Liberty University, graduating with distinction.
