COFIELD – A Cofield man stands charged in the death of a motorcyclist following an auto accident here Tuesday morning.

Cadarius Kentrell Tann, 21, of Bluefoot Road, Ahoskie, died after the motorcycle he was operating collided with a farm truck in the corporate limits of Cofield on the Ahoskie-Cofield Road.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper J.K. Jones, the accident occurred when Tann was making a legal pass of the farm truck, owned by Newsome Farms and operated by 42-year-old Raymond Ray Lane.

Jones said his investigation into the 10:50 a.m. crash revealed that both vehicles were traveling south on the Ahoskie-Cofield Road. He stated that Tann was in the process of passing the farm truck, which was pulling a trailer, and the truck then made a left-hand turn into a private driveway at which time the two vehicles collided.

Jones said Tann was ejected from his motorcycle and died at the scene.

Lane was not injured.

Trooper Jones charged Lane with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, and a safe movement violation.

The fatality was the second of 2017 in the NC Highway Patrol’s Troop A / District II area (Bertie, Gates and Hertford counties). Both fatal wrecks have occurred in Hertford County.
