SEVERN – Carol Lee “Callie” Long of Severn, age 92, died peacefully surrounded by her family on February 25, 2017 at the Rich Square Health Care Center.

She was born on July 8, 1924 to the late William and Lula Smith Lee in Boykins, VA.  She was married sixty-one years to James Clayton Long, Jr. and to this marriage was born two daughters.

Mrs. Long was a member of the Severn Baptist Church.  She graduated from nursing school in 1966 and was awarded the most outstanding student award in her class.  Mrs. Long taught along with Dr. Joseph Fleetwood, Jr. the first classes of the Conway-Severn Rescue Squad in which all students passed.  She was also past president of the Severn Women’s Club. Mrs. Long loved her flowers, dogs and crocheting.

Preceding her in death are her mother, Lula Smith Lee; father, William Anderson Lee; husband, James Clayton Long, Jr., sister, Jessie Lee Daniels; and brothers, Anderson Lee, Wallace Lee, William Lewis Lee and Frank Lee.

Carol is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Long Davis and her husband Billy of Conway, NC and Jane Long Garner of Kinston, NC; six grandchildren, Lynn Davis Edwards and her husband, Jimmy of Seaboard, NC, Phillip Vinson Davis and his wife, Betsy of Conway, NC, Carol Michelle Davis Stivers and her husband, Jerry of Capron, VA, Sheron Odom Aycock and her husband, Steve of La Grange, NC, Amy Odom Eason and her husband, Troy of La Grange, NC, and Stephen Farley Garner Jr. and his wife, Lisa of La Grange, NC; and eight great-grandchildren, Ryan Clayton Davis of Conway, NC, Dale Christian Davis of Conway, NC, Kelly Lynn Edwards of Kitty Hawk, NC, John Davis Stivers of Capron, VA, Troy “Ty” Eason, III of La Grange, NC, Callie Eason of La Grange, NC, Vanessa Garner of La Grange, NC, and Jase Michael Garner of La Grange, NC.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Mrs. Long’s caregivers, Lillian, Barbara and Helen, while she was at home and to the Severn Baptist Church, a thank you for the prayers and support during Mrs. Long’s illness. Thank you to Dr. Michael Alston, Rich Square Health Care Center and Comfort Care for all the care given to Mrs. Long.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Severn Baptist Church in Severn, NC with the Rev. Mark Corbett officiating.  The interment will follow at the Severn Cemetery.
