MURFREESBORO – With the resignation of John Porter, a vacancy exists and needs to be filled on the Murfreesboro Town Council.

According to town officials, Porter resigned Jan. 31 citing personal reasons.

Porter was in the second year of a two-year term, which ends in November of this year.

Town officials are currently accepting applications from those interested in filling the remaining eight months of Porter’s unexpired term. The individual appointed to fill that vacant seat can choose to seek the office for a full two-year term by filing as a candidate for the Murfreesboro municipal election that is scheduled in November.

Applications are available for pick-up at the Murfreesboro Municipal Building located at 105 East Broad Street. They are also available and can be downloaded from the town’s website (www.townofmurfreesboro.com).

The Murfreesboro Town Council consists of five members and the Mayor. Council members hold public meetings at 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
