AHOSKIE, NC – Raymond Lawrence Felton, age 71, died peacefully at his home on January 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Felton was born in Gates County, NC on July 18, 1945, a son of the late Clarence Ray Felton and Evelyn Lawrence Felton Eure. Raymond was the owner and operator of several Perdue Chicken Houses until his health would no longer let him work. He was a former member of the National Guard Reserve and the Ahoskie Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  Raymond was a good, all around person who loved the outdoors, cook outs, and his animals, often riding his dogs on the tractor with him.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of fifty plus years, Ruth Rose Felton; his daughter, Sherry R. Felton and fiance’, Sonny Jernigan of Aulander, NC; a nephew/son, Michael Henry and wife, Lorrie of Eure, NC; two brothers, Bobby Askew and wife, Janet of Moyock, NC, and William Askew and wife, Tammy of Winton, NC; three sisters, Erlene Joyner and husband, Allen of Aulander, NC, Vicki Sharp and husband, Mark, of Gibsonville, NC, and Brenda Overton and husband, Sherwood of Ahoskie, NC; also two grandsons, Joshua Gaudette, and Benjamin Jernigan; and a granddaughter, Danielle Henry.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13, 2017, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at the home.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, with Rev. Paul Ange officiating.  Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery.
