Dewey F. Pierce

COLERAIN – Dewey Fleetwood Pierce, born November 22, 1938, died at his home surrounded by family on December 4, 2016.

Fleetwood was a farmer; mechanic and he retired from the NC Department of Transportation.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved drum fishing on Hatteras Island and hunting at Broadneck and Cooke’s Farm in Bertie County.

Fleetwood is survived by his wife Mattie Pitt Pierce; daughters, Pam Pierce of Farmville, Cheryl Jernigan of Ahoskie, and Wendy Pierce Pearce and her husband, Ritchie Pearce of Farmville; son, D. F. “Woody” Pierce and his wife Mary Burgess Pierce of Windsor; three grandchildren, Blair Pearce, Bryant Pierce, and Gavin Pierce; brother, Darnell Pierce; along with many nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Fleetwood was predeceased by his mother, Emma White Pierce; father, Hezzie VanBuren Pierce; brothers, Leroy Pierce and Alton Lee Pierce; and sister, Virginia Pierce Joyner.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Colerain Baptist Church by Rev. Gary Saffell. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 6th from 7-8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, and from the home at other times.
