Thomas H. Joyner

WOODLAND, NC – Thomas Henry Joyner, age 84, of Woodland, passed away on November 24, 2016 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA.

Mr. Joyner was born on March 6, 1932 to Clifton and Mary Baugham Joyner in Hertford County, NC. “Buddy” served in the United States Army for two years and loved his country. He was a supervisor at Talon until the plant closed, later retiring from the United States Postal Service. “Buddy” was very talented, from upholstery to stained glass, and was a brick layer. He had a true love of music, being a songwriter, singer, and great guitar player. “Buddy” loved any aspect of flying airplanes, especially airplane simulation. During his later years in life, “Buddy” bought himself a Mustang convertible that he thoroughly enjoyed driving around. He adored his family, especially his two sons, and animals very much.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Jane Joyner and Edith Joyner Byrum.

Thomas is survived by his two sons, Thomas Henry Joyner, Jr. of Cary, NC, and Mark Clinton Joyner of Savannah, GA; and their mother, Connie Boyce; three brothers, Clifton Joyner Jr. and wife Patty of Winton, NC, Robert Earl Joyner of Woodland, and David Lee Joyner and wife Janet of St. Johns, NC; sister, Barbara Outland and husband Johnny of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 26, 2016, from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square Chapel, Rich Square, NC.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016, 3:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, NC, with the Rev Mickey Willard and Deacon Dan Bryant, officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery, Woodland, NC.
