WINDSOR – Bertie County Sheriff John Holley has announced that his office has executed three search warrants on three alleged illegal ABC outlets, or clubs, serving alcohol without a license.

During the Nov. 8 general election, the county approved a referendum that will allow Bertie County’s Alcohol Beverage Control Board to issue permits to businesses wanting to serve mixed, alcoholic beverages, or liquor-by-the-drink.

A mixed beverages permit authorizes the retail sale of mixed beverages for consumption on the premises. The permit fee is $1,000 and may be issued for restaurants, hotels, private clubs, convention centers, community theatres, non-profit organizations and political organizations.

Holley said that on Saturday, Nov. 19 his deputies executed search warrants for the following locations: 601 Mount Olive Road, Windsor; 653 US Hwy 13 North, Windsor; and 731 B Cedar Landing Road in Windsor.

The operation resulted in six arrests which included 12 charges.  Violations ranged from selling alcoholic beverages without ABC permits to an illegal weapon charge and controlled substance violations.

Agencies involved in this operation were the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, the NC Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) and the NC State Bureau of Investigation.

“I would like to thank the NC Alcohol Law Enforcement and the NC State Bureau of Investigation for assisting with this operation,” Holley said.
