Sara W. Hill

MURFREESBORO, NC – Sara Whitley Hill, age 99, passed away on November 2, 2016 at her home with her daughter and caregiver by her side.

Mrs. Hill was born in Como, NC on November 16, 1916, the daughter of the late George and Blannie Britt Whitley.  Sara was a longtime member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union for many years. She worked as a nurse for Raiford Hospital in Franklin, VA during WWII and later served as dental assistant for Dr. W. F. Britt.  After her nursing career, Mrs. Hill went on to work in retail as assistant manager of Peebles Department Store in Murfreesboro.

Sara was a loving and devoted mother, not only to her daughter, but her nephews as well.  She had many hobbies and interests, including sewing, especially crafts, gardening, and she loved to travel.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 53 years, Edward Holland Hill, and her brother, George Elmore Whitley.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Sara Frances Hill of Murfreesboro, NC; numerous nieces, and nephews; great; and great great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC, with Rev. Dennis Bazemore, Alex Measamer, and Larry King officiating.  Burial will follow in Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery in Como, NC.
