WINDSOR – A reward has been offered to help solve a Bertie County homicide that occurred one month ago.

According to Shannon O’Toole, Assistant Special Agent in Charge and Public Information Officer for the North Carolina SBI, the reward is $2,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of 50-year-old Bryan Okeffee Harrell of Windsor.

The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and SBI are investigating Harrell’s murder, which took place on Oct. 4.

At approximately 5:30 am on that date, Bertie deputies responded to a shots fired call in the vicinity of Cedar Landing Road, Windsor, according to Sheriff John Holley.

Holley stated that upon the arrival of the deputies they discovered a vehicle parked in an open field adjacent to the basketball court at Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church. Inside that vehicle, deputies discovered Harrell. He was deceased.

Sheriff Holley said an autopsy revealed that Harrell died as the result of two gunshot wounds.

The reward is an effort between members of the Cedar Landing community where Harrell lived and the Bertie Sheriff’s Office. Each donated $1,000.

Those with information on this case can call the Bertie Sheriff’s Office at (252) 794-5330. The identity of the caller is kept confidential.
