Roads take a beating

Damage inflicted by Hurricane Matthew on roads in the Roanoke-Chowan area will last longer than isolated flooding problems.

The NC Department of Transportation Office in Ahoskie is still out assessing the damage to local roads.

“We are aware of many problem areas with washouts, what we are unaware of at this time is what type of damage we will find to some roads once the water recedes,” said Scott Emory, Resident Engineer with DOT’s Ahoskie office. “Some of those areas may be repaired in a week or less; others may take longer, such as River Road at Hare’s Millpond.”
