CONWAY – Margie Johnson Burgess, 89, born August 25, 1927 to the late Henry B. Johnson and Bessie P. Johnson, passed away October 8, 2016 at Rich Square Care Center.  She had been preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Levi E, Burgess.

She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and lifelong member of Galatia Baptist Church, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Emera Chapter 119, and she was, also, an Avon Representative for 52 years.

Her survivors include son, Alton Burgess and his wife, Nell of Roanoke Rapids; daughter, Beatrice B. Barnes of Conway; grandchildren, Jenny B. Jones and husband, Jody, of Roanoke Rapids, Kevin Barnes and wife, Ellen, of Atlanta, Georgia; great grandchildren, Gavin Jones, Andrew Barnes, and Nolan Barnes; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation with the family of Mrs. Burgess will be held on Tuesday, October, 11, 2016 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway and her funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster presiding.  Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery, US 158 Hwy, Conway, NC.

The family would like to thank Dr. Khoury of Aulander, Rich Square Health Care Center staff, and Vidant Roanoke Chowan-Hospital staff for the care they offered Mrs. Burgess.
