Chowan swimmers place 3rd at Converse Invitational

SPARTANBURG, SC- The Chowan University women’s swim team took home a third place finish at the Converse Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks compiled 394 points over the course of the two-day event.  Converse College won the invitational with 629.5 points followed by Brenau University in second place with a score of 561.  Hollins University posted a fourth place finish with 143.5 points with Sweet Briar rounding out the scoring with 126 points in fifth place.

On Friday, Chowan concluded the first half of the meet in third place with 187 points.  Action concluded on Saturday with the final nine events of the invitational.

Julia Chmielewska, Sarah Hull, Megan Reid, and Kjahna O finished in third place in the 400 medley relay. The Hawks posted a time of 4:24.60, finishing behind Brenau and Converse in second and third, respectively.

In the 500 freestyle, Chowan’s Keitra Lloyd brought home a second place finish after completing the event in 5:47.98.

Chmielewska defeated a 14-swimmer field in the 100 individual medley. She posted a winning time of 1:02.92.  Kenya McCray followed in fourth place after finishing the event in 1:05.58.

In the 100 backstroke, Lindsay Dowling of Brenau edged Chowan’s Chmielewska by less than one second to earn a first place finish.  Chmielewska picked up a second place finish for the Hawks with a time of 1:00.65.  O followed in third place in the 13-swimmer field with a time of 1:04.26.

Hull picked up a seventh place finish for Chowan in the 100 breaststroke.  She completed the event in 1:26.44.  McCray topped a field of 20-swimmers in the 100 freestyle; earning a first place finish for the Hawks with a winning time of 54.11.

In the 100 butterfly, McCray grabbed a third place finish after completing the event in 1:00.85.

Chmielewska earned a second place finish in a field of 13-swimmers with a time of 2:16:52.

Chowan’s O, Chmielewska, Lloyd, and McCray brought home a first place finish in the 200 freestyle. The Hawks defeated seven other relay teams in the event.

Chowan returns to action on Oct. 29 as the Hawks host their first-ever swim meet against Columbia College.
