Chowan earns fourth straight soccer win

LINCOLN, PA – The Chowan University women’s soccer team earned their fourth straight win on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Lincoln University (PA).

The Hawks improve to 6-5 on the season.  Chowan’s six wins marks the most for the women’s soccer program since the 2008 season with the squad posted a 7-10-1 overall record.

The Lady Lions fall to 1-8 on the year with the setback.

Lincoln (PA) took an early lead, grabbing the advantage within the first five minutes of play.  Alanna Van Ness found the back of the net using Tamara Green’s corner kick to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 edge.

In the 24th minute, a Lincoln (PA) foul resulted in a penalty kick for Chowan.  Sarah Ghaffoor took advantage of the opportunity, and scored for the Hawks to knot the score 1-1.

With less than ten minutes remaining before the halftime break, Rebekah Beal scored an unassisted goal to give Chowan a 2-1 advantage.

The Hawks continued to build on the momentum after the halftime break where they used two unassisted goals; one by Mackenzie Imamura in the 69th minute, and one byRebekah Langley in the 79th minute to provide the final outcome.

Chowan recorded 18 shots in the win, with 14 shots on goal.  Kimberly Surio led the effort with five shots while Beal posted three shots for Chowan.  Imamaura, Stephanie Quintanilla, and Alex Paul all notched two shots to aid the effort.

Olivia Borer made two saves in-goal in the win.  Emily Duvall came in during the final four minutes and made one save.

Lincoln (PA) was held to seven shots over the course of the competition. Green and Van Nes both recorded two shots for the Lady Lions.  Deborah Roesboro hauled in 10 saves in-goal.
