The Hawks move to 5-5 on the season with the victory while the Pacers slide to 2-10-1 overall with the setback.

Chowan’s five wins is the most for the women’s soccer program since the 2009 season (5-13).

The Hawks recorded 28 shots in the contest while holding the Pacers to six shots on the afternoon. Rebekah Beal led the effort for Chowan with nine shots while Mackenzie Imamura added six shots in the win.  Asia Fort and Kimberly Surio each tallied three shots for the Hawks.

Alyssa Gasperini led the effort for the Pacers with three shots in the setback.

Oliva Borer recorded two saves for Chowan in the shutout win.  Shannon Maddex grabbed six saves in-goal for William Peace.

In the 21st minute of play, a goal by Surio gave the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.  She sent the ball near post past a diving effort from Maddex using Beal’s assist. Pallet found the back of the net ten minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal at the far post with William Peace’s keeper out of the box.  In the 36th minute, Surio pushed Chowan ahead 3-0 with a goal near the crossbar.  Pallet was credited with the assist on the play.

After taking a 3-0 lead into the halftime break, the Hawks continued the momentum into the second half.  A strong defensive effort kept William Peace off the scoreboard and allowed Chowan to control the game.

With less than four minutes left in the contest, a pair of goals by Beal put the game out of reach.  Her first goal occurred at the 86:08 mark after she took advantage of a rebound to send the ball just under the crossbar.  Two minutes later, a shot into the post by Alex Paul led to a rebound, which Beal promptly sent to the back of the net to secure the 5-0 win for the Hawks.

Tuesday’s victory came on the heels of a 3-0 victory vs. Columbia International University on Saturday.

In that contest, the Hawks and the visiting battled through a competitive first half before Mackenzie Imamura put Chowan on the board.  In the 37th minute, she used a cross from Surio to send the ball far post, giving the Hawks a 1-0 edge.

Holding a 1-0 advantage after the halftime break, Chowan came out firing early in the second half.  In the 50th minute, Beal scored a goal near post behind Imamura’s assist to leave the Rams trailing 2-0.  Beal struck again for the Chowan Blue and White, heading the ball past Columbia International’s keeper five minutes later to send the Hawks ahead 3-0. Pallett was credited with the assist on the play.

Borer made three saves for Chowan in the shutout win.

Chowan hits the road on Oct. 9-10 to take on Lincoln University (PA) and Chestnut Hill, respectively.

The Hawks return to their home field on Oct. 16 as Chowan plays host to Barton College in a 3 pm contest.
