WINDSOR – The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are investigating a homicide that occurred near here on Tuesday, October 4.

At approximately 5:30 am, Bertie deputies responded to a shots fired call in the vicinity of Cedar Landing Road, Windsor, according to Sheriff John Holley.

Holley stated that upon the arrival of the deputies they discovered a vehicle parked in an open field adjacent to Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church. Inside that vehicle, deputies discovered 50-year-old Bryan Okeffee Harrell. He was deceased. 

Sheriff Holley said the cause of death is pending an autopsy and the investigation is ongoing.
