MURFREESBORO – Chowan University’s School of Fine and Applied Arts in conjunction with the Hertford County Arts Council are teaming up to offer pottery classes to the community during the month of October.

This season’s class theme is the Japanese Tea Bowl, also known as ‘chawan’, however, students are given the liberty to embrace their creativity and make whatever they would like. No experience is necessary and every student is guaranteed to end the class with a piece of their own handmade pottery.

Heading up the classes will be Rob Buller, Assistant Professor of Art at Chowan University, teaching both hand-building techniques and potter’s wheel methods to class sizes limited to 12 students.

Two sessions are being offered to assist with possible scheduling conflicts: Fridays from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and Saturdays from 10 am until 1 pm. Classes begin Oct. 7 and end Oct. 28.

Open to the public, the class is $75, which includes clay, glazes, and firing.  Classes will be held in Green Hall on the campus of Chowan University.

Classes are expected to fill up fast! For more information, or to enroll in one of the classes today, contact Buller at (252) 642-7168 or buller@chowan.edu.
