Hawks hit the road

SALISBURY – Fresh off a dramatic victory in front of the home fans last Saturday, Chowan University hits the road today to take on Livingstone College. Kick-off is slated for 1 pm.
Saturday’s contest between the Hawks and Blue Bears marks the first CIAA match-up of the season.
The Hawks head to Salisbury with a 2-1 record on the season. In their last outing, Chowan handed the visiting West Florida Argonauts their first loss as a program with a 35-28 decision thanks to a fourth quarter touchdown and a stout defense late in the game.
Chowan quarterback Randall Dixon completed 28-44 pass attempts for a school record 399 yards and two touchdowns in the win against West Florida. Tyree Lee rushed 30 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns while Tyrone Carter hauled in 11 receptions for 188 yards for the Chowan Blue and White.
Defensively, Demetrius Newberry led all players in the contest with 14 tackles (seven solo, seven assisted) en-route to earning CIAA Linebacker of the Week honors.
The Hawks recorded a season-high 529 offensive yards in the win.
Livingstone welcomes Chowan to Alumni Memorial Stadium with a 1-2 mark on the season. The Blue Bears dropped a 38-12 decision to Davidson College last Saturday. Bryan Digsby completed 18-37 pass attempts for 201 yards and one touchdown while Jarius Richardson tallied 11 carries for 52 yards. Everett Ramson notched seven receptions for 94 yards followed by Andrew Gamble with five receptions for 43 yards and one touchdown.
Saturday marks the fifth time Chowan and Livingstone meet on the gridiron. The Hawks hold a 4-0 record in the series against the Blue Bears. The last time the two teams met was in 2012 (a 70-35 win by the Hawks).
Livingstone was 5-4 overall and 4-3 in CIAA play last year.
