After a one hour delay for ‘real’ lightning prior to the opening kick of the contest, the Hawks got off to a quick start as Kimberly Surio took advantage of a penalty kick in the 28th minute to put Chowan on the board. Goldey-Beacom answered back less than ten minutes later when Natalie Waltz beat Hawks’ keeper Olivia Borer out of the box and sent the ball far post to knot the score 1-1.

Both teams continued to battle through the end of the first half and entered halftime still tied 1-1. Both fought to establish momentum in the second half, with neither team able to find the back of the net, sending the contest into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime, Sophie Woods answered the call for Goldey-Beacom scoring the game-winning goal behind Kiera Young’s assist just three minutes into the second overtime period.

Chowan recorded three shots in the setback. Rebekah Beal, Christine Chubb, and Surio each notched one shot apiece in the loss. Goldey-Beacom totaled 26 shots.

Borer made 10 saves in goal for the Blue and White over the course of the contest.

Sunday the Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision to St. Andrews University in Laurinburg. Mackenzie Imamura scored the lone goal for Chowan, which took just six shots for the game compared to eight shots-on-goal for the Lady Knights. Keeper Borer had five saves as the Hawks dipped to 1-3. Chowan will travel to Wilson to meet Barton on Wednesday before returning home Saturday Sept. 17 and facing Lincoln, PA.
