Nellie D. Chamblee

COFIELD, NC – Nellie Rae Davidson Chamblee, age 81, passed away on August 30, 2016 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC with her loving family by her side.

Mrs. Chamblee was born on August 31, 1934 to Kirby and Pansy Odell Taylor Davidson in Harrellsville, NC. Nellie was a homemaker and farmer all of her life, providing for her family. She was a member of Brantley’s Grove Baptist Church.

Nellie had a special love for children and showed that love by making baby blankets for many of them. She was a foster parent for over thirty years, fostering over one hundred children. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and listening to country music, especially Blake Shelton, naming her puppy that was given to her as a birthday gift after him.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and was called “Nanny” by everyone that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Chamblee, Jr.; two brothers, Jackie Oliver Davidson and Earl Davidson; and her sister, Beverly Jane Futrell.

Nellie is survived by her daughter, Nellie Sue Chamblee of Cofield; three sons, William Thomas Chamblee, III of Cofield, Ray Davidson Chamblee and his wife Linda of Ahoskie, and Earl Gaston Chamblee and his wife Cheryl of Ahoskie; three grandsons, Thomas Chamblee and girlfriend, Kelsey Farmer, of Cofield, Jackie Ray Chamblee and wife Ashley of Ahoskie, and WT Chamblee, IV of OH; two granddaughters, Wanda C. Phillips and husband Heath of Winterville, NC, and Robin Dawn Chamblee of FL; two great-grandsons, Bradley Cole Phillips and Jonas Alexander Chamblee; two great-granddaughters, Allie Elizabeth Phillips and Kaley Rae Chamblee; brother-in-law, Blakely Chamblee of Dalton, GA; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with the Rev. Greg Powell officiating. The interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
