Murder probe underway

WINDSOR – The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are investigating a homicide that occurred near here early Sunday, July 31.
According to Sheriff John Holley, at approximately 2:45 a.m. that morning his office received a call of a shooting having taken place at a party being held at a club called “The Cabin” located on Morning Road Extension near the Roanoke River south of Windsor.
The Sheriff went on to reveal that a short while after that call was received, law enforcement determined a male subject had been transported to Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor by private vehicle.
The victim, Alexander Lee III, 27, of Aulander, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Holley would only say that his office is following up numerous leads in this case and added that no other information would be forthcoming as the investigation is ongoing.

This latest homicide is the ninth this year in Bertie County. Of those, five have been solved.
