ENFIELD – They don’t call him “Lucky” for nothing!

According to Tyree Davis, Chief of the Enfield Police Department, his officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Freedom Street shortly before midnight on Sunday, July 31.

Davis said the search warrant came as a result of citizen complaints and a month long investigation by Enfield Police Detective Willie Murphy and Enfield Police Captain Dreher Bozard.

During the search of the residence and vehicle, officers located 392 grams of marijuana with the assistance of Enfield Police Corporal E. Williams and K9 “Lucky”. Ironically it was Lucky’s first day on the job as a K-9 officer.

Chief Davis said Vermel Jeremaine Fenner, 32, of Enfield was charged by Detective Murphy with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; felony maintaining a vehicle/ dwelling place for a control substance; felony possession of marijuana; and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Fenner was jailed under a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Halifax County District Court on Aug. 17.
