MERRY HILL – Thelma Pearl Phelps Daniels, 93, of 2035 US Hwy 17 North, Merry Hill, NC died Monday, August 1, 2016.

Mrs. Daniels was born in Bertie County on February 16, 1923 and was the daughter of James Norman and Willie Britt Phelps. Prior to becoming a homemaker she attended Norfolk Business School and was a typist at Norfolk Naval Shipyard during WWII. She also worked at ASCS Office and the Bertie County Board of Education.

Mrs. Daniels was a lifelong member of Merry Hill Baptist Church and a loving and devoted caretaker to both her parents and her husband. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Daniels, and a brother, James Norman Phelps, Jr.

Survivors include her sister, Sarah P. Mitchell of Yorktown VA; her son, Chuck E. Daniels and wife Rita of Merry Hill, NC; two daughters, Bonnie D. Lucas and husband Gordy of Kinston, and Margaret D. Adams and husband Michael of Merry Hill; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Merry Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Stanley Nixon. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor.

The family will receive friends following the committal service in the Merry Hill Baptist Fellowship Hall.
