Jean B. Hawkins

DURHAM – Jean Beal Hawkins, 92, of Durham, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Seasons of Southpoint surrounded by her family. She leaves her loving husband, Byron K. Hawkins, of 55 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Lacy Beal and Olivia Campbell Beal of Pittsboro, NC.

Jean (MiMi) was a very caring loving mother, wife, grandmother, and a wonderful cook. She loved being a homemaker. Jean graduated from Pittsboro Schools and attended Appalachian State University. Her smile was so beautiful it would brighten anyone’s life. Jean never met a stranger. She was active in the Durham Woman’s Club, a circle in Duke Memorial Methodist Churcht. She loved politics, reading her Bible and the Durham newspaper daily.

Along with Byron, she was an avid NC State Wolfpack fan. For years, she attended football, basketball, and baseball games. In earlier years, she would save newspaper articles for the team members and many of the team’s families became part of her family.

She is survived by daughter, Carole Yount Everett (Dennis) of Ahoskie; son, Dr. J. Daniel Robinson III (Tanya) of Wallace; granddaughter, June Avery Capps Chrismon (Channing) of Gibsonville; grandson, Dr. Byron E. Capps (Christine) of Tacoma, WA; great-grandchildren, Avery-Grace Chrismon and Reid Chrismon; sister, Evaughn B. Bradford of Greensboro; and niece, Paula B. White (Kim) of Greensboro.

A memorial service will be held at Duke Memorial Methodist Church, 504 W. Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC 27701 on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 2 pm. Rev. Heather Rodriguez will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.

Our many thanks go to the staff at Seasons of Southpoint and Duke Hospice and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their loving care of our loved one, Jean.
