JACKSON – A week-long highway project will close US 158 to thru-traffic near here.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, US 158 northeast of Jackson will be shutdown in both directions beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1.

DOT has scheduled the replacement of a pipe under the roadway that serves as a conduit for the Wiccacanee Swamp. The actual work area is located between Mt. Carmel Road and Boyd-Ivey Road.

Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to be completed and US 158 fully re-opened at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5.

Motorists traveling in that area will notice detour signs directing eastbound traffic around the work site by using NC 305 North of Jackson to SR 1311 (Jackson Bypass Road) and back onto US 158.

Westbound traffic can also use SR 1311 as a detour, to NC 305 and then south to Jackson where access can be regained to US 158.
