AHOSKIE – Perquimans County Post 126 spoiled the regular-season finale for local Post 102’s junior American Legion baseball team with a doubleheader sweep by final scores of 7-0 and 8-4 here Friday night.

Ahoskie could only manage one hit in the 7-0 loss in the first game.

Perquimans opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second inning and took a 3-0 lead into the third as Post 102 couldn’t answer.

Post 126 added three more runs in the top of the third inning, and scored their final run in the top of the fifth for the 7-0 victory.

Frankie Reppy had the lone safety for Ahoskie as Grant Little and Hunter Mitchell pitched for Post 102.

Five runs in the top of the second inning broke open a close 2-1 score in the second game and powered Post 126 to double-up Ahoskie, 8-4.

Perquimans punched across a pair of runs in the top of the first inning for a 2-0 lead after a half-inning of baseball, but Ahoskie struck right back, cutting the margin in half in their half of the first.

Keyshawn Lassiter opened with a walk, stole second base, and went to third on a Zeb Askew groundout. Lassiter would later score on a wild pitch.

Leading 2-1 after one complete inning, Perquimans opened up the game with five runs in the top of the second to take a 7-1 lead after two.

Ahoskie still had life; Post 102 scored two run in the bottom of the third when Little singled to center, stole second, and went to third base on Gabriel Correa’s base hit; meanwhile, Alden Lassiter then walked to load the bases. Little crossed the plate when Reppy reached first base on an error, and Trevor Lee’s bases-loaded walk brought in Correa. Ahoskie trailed now by four runs, 7-3, with still some baseball left to play.

Perquimans added some insurance with a run in the top of the fourth inning for an 8-3 lead.

Ahoskie scored what would be its final run in the bottom of the fourth. Mitchell walked and Parker Bradley reached on an error. Mitchell then came home on Jordan Robinson’s RBI single. Still in the inning, Little walked to load the bases, but left the bags full for the second straight inning and saw Post 126 claim the four-run victory.

Trent Munford and Evan Lassiter pitched for Ahoskie with Little, Robinson, Correa, and Steven Futrell accounting for Post 102’s four hits.

Ahoskie ended its regular season at 4-18 overall, but still made the junior Legion playoffs in Manteo this week.
