Missing woman found deceased

HENRICO – A woman reportedly missing for approximately two weeks was found deceased in a wooded area near her residence here July 4.

According to a report from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call in Henrico in reference to Marilyn Bell Caldwell who was missing. Caldwell’s brother reported her as missing on July 4.

Northampton Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene in the Lake Gaston area around 9:30 a.m. to begin their search.

The North Carolina Department of Corrections was contacted and they dispatched 20 PERT team members to assist in searching for Caldwell. She was located at 4:10 p.m. by the search team.

An autopsy is pending.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith offered his condolences to the Caldwell family. He also thanked the numerous agencies that assisted in the search and for offering support for the search teams.

“I would like to thank the American Red Cross who responded to provided refreshments for the search team. I also would like to thank the North Carolina Department of Corrections for assisting in the search as well as members of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office. I would like to thank Sgt. Patrick Jacobs for efforts in processing the scene,” Sheriff Smith stated.
