Washington tops Ahoskie

AHOSKIE – Beaufort County Post 15 downed Ahoskie, 11-8, here Monday evening in a junior American Legion baseball game.

Washington jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning-and-a-half before Ahoskie cut their lead in half in the bottom of the second inning. Frankie Reppy reached on an error before Edward Bradley walked. Bradley was forced at second when Trent Munford reached on a fielder’s choice. Reppy scored on a wild pitch before Jordan Robinson and Trevor Lee walked to load the bases. Evan Lassiter then blasted a two-run single up the middle scoring Munford and Robinson and it was 6-3, Post 15, after two complete.

Washington got two more runs in the top of the third before Ahoskie got three of those runs back. In the bottom of the frame, Bradley Edwards singled and Grant Little walked. Both runners scored on Reppy’s two run double into the gap in right centerfield. Reppy later scored on a Munford RBI single and Washington led 8-6 after three.

Post 102 crept closer with a run in the bottom of the fourth when Edwards got a single and Little walked. Edwards scored on Reppy’s third RBI of the night and Ahoskie was within a run, 8-7, after four innings.

Post 15 added a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth for an 11-7 lead.

Ahoskie scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth when Lassiter doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. Washington led it 11-8.

In the bottom of the seventh Ahoskie got Bradley (single) and Robinson (walk) on base with two out, but a fly out ended the game.

Lee, Lassiter, Little, and Munford pitched for Post 102 with Lee taking the loss.

Ahoskie had 11 hits; three by Lassiter, two each by Edwards and Zeb Askew, and single base-knocks from Reppy, Bradley, Munford, and Robinson.

Ahoskie is 3-10 after the non-conference tilt.
