WINDSOR – Post 37’s junior American Legion baseball team suffered their third straight setback here Wednesday night as they fell to Perquimans County Post 126, 15-5.

Brandon Roberson was two-for-two as Windsor was out-hit 14-7. Post 37 was also plagued by the error bug; committing five miscues.

“I thought we played very flat, very un-inspired baseball,” said coach Bobby Harmon. “I’ve got to do a better job of getting this guys prepared both mentally and physically to play baseball. (Our pitchers) really battled for us but we just gave them too many bases. We have to do a better job, plain and simple.”

Windsor opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Daquan Wilson reached first base after he was hit by a pitch, but was erased off the basepaths when Trenton White reached on a fielder’s choice. Miller Trowell then stroked a single to score White for a 1-0 Windsor lead.

Perquimans got to starter Wilson in the top of the second when they pushed four runs across for a 4-1 lead for Post 126.

Windsor answered with a single run in the bottom of the frame when Roberson reached when he smacked a one-out single to left, was sacrificed to second base, and scored on Ethan Hughson’s single up the middle. Hughson, however, was out at second trying to stretch it into a double. Windsor halved their deficit to 4-2.

Perquimans got two more runs in the top of the third to lead 6-2, but Windsor struck back. Wilson walked and went to second when White bunted his way on base. Miller Trowell sacrificed both runners into scoring position before Lance Freeman delivered Wilson with an RBI single. Scoop Hoggard walked to load the bases before Roberson’s second hit of the game brought home White. However, a pop-up ended the threat with the bases loaded, but Windsor had made it a two-run game again, down just 6-4.

But Perquimans tightened down, scored a single run in the fourth, six more in the fifth, and their final two in the top of the seventh to lead it 15-4.

Windsor got their final run on Evan Wells seventh-inning single that scored Hoggard for the 10-run final.

Wilson took the loss on the mound as Wells and Jared Speight also pitched. In addition to Roberson’s two hits, Post 37 had single hits from White, Miller Trowell, Freeman, Hughson, and Wells for seven hits on the night.

Windsor falls to 4-5 overall and remain 2-3 in conference play. Post 37 will host Wilson Post 11 at Bertie High Baseball Field today (Saturday) at 6 p.m.
