RICH SQUARE – Three suspects were arrested here June 3 on numerous charges.

Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy D.M. Harmon said the three suspects – Jalil Deloatch of Rich Square, Traquan Shamar Edwards of Colerain, and Sharref Paquan Williams of Rich Square, all 18 – have been charged with armed robbery, second degree kidnapping, possession of a stolen firearm, and misdemeanor assault with deadly weapon.

The charges, Harmon said, stem from an assault that was reported around 7:20 p.m. on May 21 in Rich Square.

The investigation, Harmon said, revealed that the victim in the case was the passenger of a vehicle that turned onto Ashe Street off South Main Street.

Harmon said several males approached the car and the victim was forced out of the vehicle at gunpoint. He was then assaulted and struck in the head with a gun.

As a result of the attack, the victim was taken to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie where he was treated for his injuries and then released.

Harmon said the victim’s handgun and cigarettes were also taken during the attack.

Harmon said that Deloatch and Edwards were each given a $51,000 secured bond for all of the charges and placed in the Northampton County Jail.

Williams, he said, was also charged with resisting arrest and was given a $51,500 secured bond for all charges and placed in the Northampton County Jail.

All three will have their first appearance in Northampton County District Court on June 9.

The investigation into this incident was handled by the Rich Square Police Department and is ongoing.

Harmon concluded that there is a possibility of more arrests.
