NCSO mourns Deputy’s death

JACKSON – Captain Courtney Williams with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, reported Friday that the county is mourning the death of Deputy Sheriff (Civil Division) Auburn “Darrell” Williams Sr.

Since officials learned of the death of Deputy Williams on Saturday, May 28, flags in Northampton have flown at half-staff to mark his legacy.

Williams, a 44-year law enforcement veteran with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, passed away Saturday May 28. He was 73 years old and served the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office from June 2003 until his passing.

Williams is survived by his wife, Dean Rhome Williams; son, Auburn Darrell “Bubba” Williams, Jr.; daughter, Kathy Calhoun and husband, Walt Calhoun; Amber Williams (daughter in law) and four grandchildren.

Williams was preceded in death by Melissa Dean and Michelle Hope.

Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith said, “Deputy Williams began his career in law enforcement with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office in July 1972 until retirement in June 2003.”

Sheriff Smith said Deputy Williams began his career with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, June 2, 2003 as a Deputy Sheriff in the Civil Division. Deputy Williams was employed with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office until his untimely death.

Sheriff Smith said Deputy Williams was a loyal employee to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

“He worked tirelessly in the Civil Division,” said Smith. “Deputy Williams was a true supporter of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

“It was shocking when I discovered the passing of Deputy Williams. Deputy Williams will truly be missed,” Smith said. “Deputy Williams was an inspiration to all of us. It will be very difficult to find someone with the knowledge and expertise like Deputy Williams had in the Civil Division.

“It is a sad day for all of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office family,” said he sheriff. “We will truly miss him.”
