PENDLETON – George Parker Edwards, 86, of Pendleton died Thursday, June, 2, 2016 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Born January 11, 1930 in Northampton County to parents, Mary Georgia Parker and James Madison Edwards, he attended and was a graduate of Campbel University in 1949 and Wake Forest University in 1951. He then served in the United States Air Force with the rank of S/SGT as a Fusing Systems Specialist from 1952 to 1956 and then went on to complete a career at the United States Naval Aviation Depot from 1963 to 1988 from which he retired.

Mr. Edwards was a member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Director, a member of the church choir, and was a Deacon. He was, also, Past District Governor of the Roanoke District of Ruritan National; and Past President of Severn/Pendleton Ruritan Club in Severn, NC and Kings Fork Ruritan Club in Suffolk, VA.

His survivors include his wife of 50 years, Frances Galloway Edwards of their home in Pendleton; children, Georgia Frances Edwards Williams and husband, Philip, and Mary Lois Edwards Bunch and husband, Jeffrey; and grandchildren, Philip Lucas Williams, Parker Tib Williams, Ethan McCoy Bunch, and Elizabeth Frances Bunch.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Edwards will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Roberts Chapel Baptist Church in Pendleton with Rev. James Crocker and Rev. Lee Canipe presiding. A visitation will follow in the Church Social Hall.
