Forrestine S. Brown

AHOSKIE – Forrestine Snider Brown passed away at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital on May 25, 2016.

Forrestine was born on October 4, 1927 in Spencer, North Carolina and was the only child and the pride and joy of Roby Bennett Snider and Ola Feezor Snider. She graduated from Spencer High School, Mars Hill College, and Meredith College with a BA in Music Education.

She moved east to the Roanoke-Chowan area and met fellow musician, Robert “Bob” Brown. They married and made wonderful music together for fifty-two years. Forrestine taught music at Ahoskie High School, taught private piano lessons, and was the organist at Ahoskie United Methodist Church from 1954 through 2010. She also served as secretary at Ridgecroft School.

Forrestine was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bob; and her son, Dr. Robert “Chip” Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Brown; her daughter-in-law, Meryl Brown, both of Ahoskie; her granddaughter, Meredith Brown and Cameron Dube of Boston, Massachusetts; her grandson, Tyler Brown and his wife Bitsy of Richmond, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Ahoskie House for the loving care they provided for Forrestine for the last several years.

A memorial service will be held at Ahoskie United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The family will visit with family and friends immediately after they service in the fellowship hall.
