RICH SQUARE – Police Chief Tessie Taylor confirmed Monday that two people were shot in Rich Square on Saturday night.

Chief Taylor said the shootings occurred at around 9 p.m. She stated that one shooting victim was treated and released from the Vidant Roanoke- Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Meanwhile, the second victim is still being treated at Greenville’s Vidant Medical Center, according to Chief Taylor.

Taylor would not reveal the reason for the shooting, but did say there is a suspect.

Since the case remains an active investigation, Chief Taylor refused further comment.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith said he is aware of the case, but stated it is the Town of Rich Square jurisdiction of Chief Taylor.
