The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office along with the State Bureau of Investigation announced Friday that warrants had been obtained for three men in the shooting death of 19-year-old Shaquan Jamar Taylor in Kelford last month.

Dominique Brimley, De’Andre Rascoe, and Devonte Holley have been charged in the homicide of Taylor, who was found dead in his home, 118 David Drive in Kelford, on Thursday, April 14, at approximately 2:50 p.m. An autopsy later revealed that Taylor died from a gunshot wound.

All three suspects are Bertie County residents.

Brimley, 19, was taken into custody late last week while Rascoe, 19, turned himself in on Saturday at the Sheriff’s Office in Windsor. Both men are currently being held in the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under no bond. Holley, age 26, is still at large.

All three suspects are charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Conspiracy, and Breaking and Entering in the death of Taylor.

“We worked tireless hours on this one, both the Sheriff’s Office and the SBI,” said Sheriff John Holley. “We were able to receive information and then work to get probable cause. My hat’s off to all the detectives in my office who worked around the clock on this case.”

Holley said they feel the arrest of the third suspect is imminent, but he would not go into detail, only to say the investigation is ongoing.

“I do feel we will make an arrest on this last one,” Holley said.

Those with information concerning the whereabouts of Holley are urged to please contact the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 252-794-5330.

Taylor’s homicide came during a two-day period when there were a trio of murders reported in Bertie County.

Also on April 14, the decapitated body of Chowan County jail escapee Kelvin Singleton was discovered off Ashland Church Road in eastern Bertie County near Midway. Officials believe Singleton’s nude, decomposing body had been killed elsewhere and brought to the discovery site.

On April 16, Rashaad Vaughan, 28, from the town of LaGrange in Lenoir County, was found shot to death at a home on Morning Road in Windsor. Another person at the residence at that time was also shot and transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where they were treated and later released.

To date, no arrests have been made in the murder cases of Singleton and Vaughan.
