COLERAIN, NC- Hattie Mae Hoggard Mizelle, age 94, of Colerain, passed away on May 11, 2016 at the Vidant Bertie Hospital of Windsor, NC.

Mrs. Mizelle was born on February 22, 1922 to Jesse and Fruzzie Todd Hoggard in Bertie County, NC. Hattie was married to the love of her life, Aubrey, for 69 years. She was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school classes since the age of twelve. Hattie loved her family and friends, and enjoyed watching and feeding her hummingbirds. She was known as the cake lady to the community, always making sure she baked a cake for any occasion that she heard was going on. Hattie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

Besides her parents, Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Lee Mizelle; her grandson, Craig Scott Mizelle; her great-grandson, Fisher Ellis Mizelle; her brother, Hubert Hoggard; and her sister, Louis Spoolman

Hattie is survived by her son, Terry Mizelle and his wife Rosa of Colerain; her daughter, Connie Mizelle and her husband J D of Manteo, NC; four grandchildren, Christopher Brent Mizelle and his wife, Jan, of New Bern, NC, Stephanie Capehart and her husband, Cadmus, of Washington, NC, Kimberly White and her husband, Aaron, of Aulander, NC, and Heather Hinchey and her husband, Melvin, of Williamston, NC; six great-grandchildren, Charles Perry Mizelle, Melvin Lee Hinchey, III, and Aubrey Claire Mizelle, Avery Lewis White, Robert Brayden Capehart, and Hudson Slade Capehart.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, 2016, from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at her home, 547 Elm Grove Road, Colerain, NC 27924.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Elm Grove Baptist Church, 638 Elm Grove Road, Colerain, NC, with the Rev. Preston Jernigan and the Rev. J N Baggett, officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
