Thomas L. Johnson

HARRELLSVILLE, NC – Thomas Lee Johnson, age 58, passed away on April 29, 2016 at the Vidant Roanoke- Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, NC.

Mr. Johnson was born in Nash County on September 16, 1957, a son of Nannie Alford Johnson, and the late Marcus Wiley Johsnon.

Thomas was a member of Creech Memorial Baptist Church and a Navy veteran. He was an auto mechanic and truck driver by trade, but enjoyed his artistic side by customizing autos, woodcarving decorative yard decor, drawing, and calligraphy. He loved trains and loved to cook, especially baking, having baked and decorated many cakes for various occasions. Above all, Tommy enjoyed being with his family, especially the ones who considered him “grandpa”.

Left to cherish his memory is his longtime companion, Paige Pierce of Harrellsville, NC; his mother, Nannie A. Johnson of Ahoskie, NC; three brothers, Marcus W. (Lillian Anne) Johnson, Jr. of Harrellsville, NC, Paul (Linda) Johnson of Grimesland, NC, and Steve (Vanessa) Johnson of Ahoskie, NC; his sister, Beth (Randy) Stroud of Ahoskie, NC; a son, Jimmy Pierce of Raleigh, NC; three grandsons, Jonathan Pierce, Jeremy Pierce, and Justin (Hillary) Pierce, all of Raleigh, NC; two granddaughters, Brittany Pierce and Brook Pierce of Raleigh, NC; two great granddaughters, Stephanie Pierce and Kathryn Pierce; and numerous nieces and nephews .

The family received friends on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Garrett Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, followed by a celebration of life service with Rev. Billy Presley and Rev. Jimmy Ward officiating. The graveside service was held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Pine View Cemetery in Rocky Mount, NC.
