RICH SQUARE – An Ahoskie man is behind bars, held under a quarter million dollar bond, following his arrest here last week.
Dwayne Flythe, 22, stands charged with first degree burglary, felony possession of stolen goods, larceny of a firearm, robbery with dangerous weapon, felony larceny after break/enter, and assault by pointing a gun.
He was placed in the Northampton County Detention Center with a $251,000 secured bond and was scheduled to make his first appearance in Northampton County District Court on April 25.
According to a report, Northampton deputies responded to a residence on Brickyard Trail in Rich Square shorty before midnight on Thursday (April 21) in reference to an armed robbery.
Once on scene, deputies spoke with the victim and learned that two subjects, one armed with a weapon, came into her residence and took several items.
Further investigation by NCSO Detective Sgt. Jonathon Jenkins lead to the development of at least one of the suspects. Flythe was located at his Ahoskie residence and taken into custody without incident.
Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith commended the work of Jenkins, along with Captain Courtney Williams, Sgt. Alan Roye, and Deputy Roderick Howard for their diligent effort in this case.
The Sheriff also thanked the Northampton County 911 Center for their effort and hard work for keeping the victim as calm as possible throughout this ordeal.
Smith thanked the Ahoskie Police Department and the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office their assistance as well.
“This event would not have been brought to a peaceful conclusion without everyone mentioned above working together,” Smith stated.
As a safety note, Sheriff Smith reminds citizens to use extreme caution when opening your doors at home because everyone that comes to your is not your friend. He encourages citizens to know who is on the other side of the door before opening it.
