Franklin M. Hughes

MERRY HILL – Franklin “Frankie” McCoy Hughes, 77, of Lellie Hughes Road, Merry Hill, passed away after a battle with both cancer and COPD. He died peacefully at his home under around the clock care of his loving wife aided by his son and step daughter and grandson.
He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and Mill Wood Hunt Club and a retired carpenter.
Frankie was the fourth of five children of Lellie M. Hughes and Marie D. Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Morris Hughes of the home, and son Gregory M. Hughes and wife Lisa of Ahoskie, NC. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Carol M. Menne of Colington, NC. Also left behind were two grandchildren, Nicholas Morris of Merry Hill and Leanna Hughes of Ahoskie, NC. In addition, surviving is his sister, Rogeania H. Rollert and husband Bill of Longview, TX; brother, Carlton Hughes and wife Janice, of Merry Hill, and younger brother, Leon Hughes of Williamston, NC along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church by Rev. Gene Martin and Rev. David Baker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 21 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor and from the home at other times.
