SEABOARD – Jewell Faye Greeson Glover was born on June 2, 1935, to Ferry Glapp Greeson and Lois Smith Greeson and raised with her cousins in the Bynum Road Community near Galatia, NC, by her Aunt Ruby Taylor after her mother passed away when she was three years old.
She graduated from Seaboard High School and married her high school sweetheart, John Millard Glover, on July 18, 1953. They were happily married for 62 years and raised five children; living in Margarettsville, NC, first, and for the past 43 years north of Seaboard, NC, on the family farm.
Jewell Faye was an avid piano player before arthritis made it impossible to play. She worked with the youth for many years at Galatia Baptist Church. She also served on the Northampton County Social Services Board, the Odom Prison Board, and the Chowan University Board of Visitors and Board of Trustees. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her life was a life of service to others. She traveled with her husband on many safaris and loved the people she met. They began supplying Bibles to those that wanted to know the Lord in Africa and shipped countless cases of Bibles to that continent to help spread the Gospel, even years after their travels ended.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother Fred; and one daughter, Jill Glover Upshaw.
She is survived by her husband, John Millard Glover; two daughters, Joni Glover Evans and her husband Rudy of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Nell Glover Todd and her husband Worth of New Bern, NC; two sons, John Mark Glover and his wife Bonnie, and Matthew (Matt) Brian Glover and his wife Susan, both of the family farm.
She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren: (Joni’s) Laura Boone, and Jeff Boone; (Mark’s) Sarah Glover, Mary Glover Jameson (Cal), Rebecca Glover Andrews (Drew), Rachel Glover Colangelo (Chris), and John Michael Glover (Bethany); (Matt’s) Catherine Glover, and Anna Glover; (Jill’s) Grace Upshaw, Kate Upshaw, and Caroline Upshaw; and (Nell’s) Tripp Todd (Keatha), Bennett Todd, and Davis Todd.
She is also survived by one great-grandchild, Margaret Joy Jameson. She is survived by one sister, Nell Greeson Harper and her husband Dick of Houston, TX and niece Carol and nephew Rick, as well as a host of other cousins and lifelong friends.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, April 7 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 8 at Galatia Baptist Church in Galatia, NC, and a graveside service will immediately follow on the family farm located at 1373 Peanut Market Road in Seaboard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John and Jewell Glover Chowan Christian Services Association Scholarship, Attn: Portia Davis, 1 University Place, Murfreesboro, NC 27855.
