SOUTH BOSTON, VA – A local man who went missing on Monday has been found safe and sound in Virginia.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said he received a call from the Virginia State Police on Tuesday morning that they had found Ronald Calvin Brown, age 61 of Millennium, in South Boston, VA.

“A Virginia State Trooper spotted Mr. Brown’s vehicle parked on the shoulder of a road and the license number came back to a Silver Alert that had been sent out on Monday,” Vaughan said. “Mr. Brown was located inside his vehicle and was taken to a hospital there in South Boston for observation. Members of his family drove there on Tuesday to get their loved one and bring him back home.”

The Silver Alert is issued through the N.C. Center for Missing Persons. The alert said that Brown is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

“We looked for him on Monday near his home and we were en route back there on Tuesday morning when I got the call from the Virginia State Police,” said Vaughan. “I had called the (North Carolina) Highway Patrol office in Raleigh to ask for their assistance to send a helicopter here so we could have some eyes in the sky just in case Mr. Brown had driven his vehicle up a path. I’m glad this ended happily for Mr. Brown and his family.”
