AHOSKIE – Change is good!

Beginning today (Tuesday, March 1), the town of Ahoskie will launch a two-month project to upgrade all residential and commercial water meters.

Ahoskie Town Manager Tony Hammond said the project has been in the works over the past few months to gear-up for the actual change-over of the meters.

“We have contracted with Ferguson Waterworks to handle the change-outs of our water meters,” Hammond said. “We expect the work to take two months to complete, so we’re looking to have this project completed by the end of April.”

Hammond stressed the importance of notifying the town’s utility customers that a private firm will be performing the work.

“They (Ferguson Waterworks) will have designated employees changing the water meters,” Hammond said. “They will be easily identifiable as they will be wearing neon vests with the name of their business on the back of the vests. Their employees will also be wearing name badges. If you see these workers in your neighborhood then you can be certain they are who they say they are.”

Hammond added that Ferguson will start in one area of the town, complete the change-out of the meters, and then move to another neighborhood.

“Our Public Works employees will use door hangers to notify residents of each neighborhood that the work is being performed there,” Hammond stated.

He said any resident with questions or concerns about this project can contact the Town Hall at 252-332-5146.
